burnt rice, the proverbial rathole, perishable food, rich conversation, thin white women w/ PhDs, liquid detergent, triage nurses, paperwork, slim and sexy women, ecomog, chlorox, ladies of the 90s, dutch ovens (ew– not that kind), inadequate use of a spa lady membership, proper use of the clutch, preventive health, chicken feet, Jean Welsh, M.D., repeatedly receiving pieces of fitness equipment as gifts, metabolism, cholesterol medicine, air fresheners, palm oil, using ice cubes to chill wine, palm butter, americana – latin american supermarket, etc.

oh man. i just had a wicked elementary school flashback. my parents gave me a copy of the alice in the wonderland sequel, through the looking glass, for christmas. i’m not exactly sure why, but it always felt like a crappy sequel. i think that my edition had pretty crappy illustrations. the whole premise was centered on finding and/or keeping an ellipsis. anyways, that book set me well on my way to a life of punctuation abuse. i used the shit out of the ellipsis throughout my pre-adolescent years. my teen years were marred by parenthetical binges. college was a downward spiral – the semi-colon entered the picture. now i just mess around with hyphens on special days.

it’s kind of crazy how far people have been able to take the alice idea. i predictably rented the 1985 made for tv alice in wonderland starring sammy davis jr, scott baio & sally struthers. talk about a HEAVY seventies vibe. all of the characters looked super dysmorphic and sounded so messy and discombobulated. yeesh! so frightening!

Venturing into new interweb territory, I just spent an hour and a half poring over street style blogs. My end goal was to find at least three new hair ideas for my quickly growing coiffe. It’s currently in a really vague gray area – think chia pet almost meets rapunzel. I spanned the globe, checking out sites from Palm Beach to Brescia, Bergen to Cape Town. Buenos Aires kind of won the style game. I was, however, blown away by a certain Hungarian site. Taking the street style blog to a whole new level, http://artstyle.blog.hu/ captures each look as a watercolor. Adorably ridiculous.

somehow i ended up having a short-lived crush on kim thayil, soundgarden’s guitarist. this happened sometime during middle school, when black hole sun was really blowing up. i guess i was attracted to his zen master persona. as the affair (in my mind) was coming to an end, I bought an issue of guitar world in which kim was interviewed. the purchase was a thinly-veiled attempt at salvaging that which had never been. i don’t remember much from the interview. kim answered some unremarkable question with “the opposite of black is not black.” hot. i was like 11 years old.

How did I not review Waikiki Wally’s yet!?!?

holy crap this place ridiculously deceptive. It looks like a quiet, almost touristy, unassuming, chill type of place to take your parents.

NO!

It somehow, after the 2 am hour, becomes this draw for the insanely drunken tina on her way home, as gabby warned. I often arise out of blackouts sitting at that tiki bar saying “why are we here?”… and if tina goes there early, she magically transforms into the insanely drunken tina somewhere after the… oh… first drink. yes, the drinks are fucking strong, and tina has a tolerance, believe me.
good times, good atmosphere, so-so food, cool backdoor passageway to lucky chang’s. Just be careful, if you find yourself waking up on a Monday morning in a drunken haze to a pile of leis on your floor… be very afraid to roll over and see who is next to you… it’s probably an ass clown.

emma kunz = extraordinary. i’m really glad that i stumbled across her while interwebbing. her drawings are so smart, tight & mysterious. perfect colors. the drawings pulse with a kind of wonky heartbeat. she made all of her art in the name of radiesthetic healing. word has it that she was hired by the luxemburgian royal family to harness her powers & ultimately foil hitler,remotely, via pendulum. it didn’t work out. in the end, his bad vibes outdid her good ones.
